I wish to bring to your knowledge my deep concerns about the Israeli bombardments which have killed several hundreds of lebanese civilians, including dozens of children and women, in South Lebanon and in Beirut.
Israeli forces have carried out large-scale destructions of civilian infrastructure throughout Lebanon, deliberately targeting and destroying dozens of bridges, roads, powers stations, the international airport and ports, grain silos and other facilities. Tens of thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes, notably in South Lebanon and in the suburbs of the capital, Beirut.
This policy carries severe humanitarian consequences for the civilian population and constitutes blatant violations of international humanitarian law and contravenes Israel’s obligation to abide by the international treaties to which it is a State party,.
Please note that Amnesty International absolutely condemns Hizbullah’s attacks against civilians and against civilian infrastructure and is campaigning to put pressure on Hizbullah to immediately end such attacks.
Together with Amnesty International, I urge the Israeli authorities :
– to put an immediate end to deliberate attacks on civilian property and infrastructure in Lebanon, which constitutes collective punishment ;
– to end the use of excessive and disproportionate force, and to respect the principle of proportionality when targeting any military objective or civilian objective that may be used for military purposes.

I wish to bring to your knowledge my deep concerns about the situation which prevails in Lebanon where scores of civilians have been killed and many civilian infrastructures have been destroyed in israeli bombardments.
Please note that Amnesty International absolutely condemns Israel’s attacks against civilians and against civilian infrastructure in Lebanon and is campaigning to put pressure on Israel to put an immediate end to such attacks.
However, I would like to urge the Lebanese authorities :
– to take concrete steps to prevent the deliberate launching by Hizbullah of rockets or other projectiles against Israeli civilians in towns and villages in Israel ;
– to take concrete steps to ensure that Hizbullah treat the two captured Israeli soldiers humanely and allow them immediate access to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

I wish to bring to your knowledge my deep concerns about the situation which prevails in Lebanon where scores of civilians have been killed and many civilian infrastructures have been destroyed in israeli bombardments.
Please note that Amnesty International absolutely condemns Israel’s attacks against civilians and against civilian infrastructure in Lebanon and is campaigning to demand that Israel immediately cease such attacks.
However, I would like to urge Hizbullah :
– to put an immediate end to the targeting of Israeli civilians, notably by immediately ceasing the launch of rockets into Israeli towns and villages.
– not to harm the two Israeli soldiers whom they are holding and to treat them humanely at all times, and to grant them immediate access to the ICRC.
